JCB machine rescues elephant from a ditch in Jharkhand's Ramgarh | Watch

Late night on Saturday, the animal got separated from its herd and fell into the ditch, local media reported. It was pulled out in the early hours of Sunday after a four-hour-long operation. 

District administration in Jharkhand's Ramgarh was forced to call for an excavator to rescue an elephant that fell into a ditch. A video of the operation to pull out the wild animal is going viral on social media, and was shared by news agency ANI as well.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, the incident took place late night on Saturday in Ramgarh's Tandil Bisa village. The elephant, which was a part of a herd, got separated from the group and fell into the structure.

The report further stated that the herd was being followed by a forest department team. Upon realising that one elephant was missing, the team began searching for it and, at around 2:30am on Sunday, found it trapped inside the ditch.

The information was conveyed to senior officials and an operation launched to rescue the elephant. However, after initial efforts failed, officials called for an excavator – commonly known as a JCB machine – and the animal was pulled out at around 6:30am.

The elephant sustained injuries due to the fall, officials said, adding that after it being taken out, it was released towards the forest in Sangrampur.
