BCCI to fund tennis, squash players

The BCCI is all set to keep its promise of supporting sportsmen from fields other than cricket, reports Akshay Sawai.

The BCCI looks set to keep its promise of supporting sportsmen from fields other than cricket. The first beneficiaries are likely to be tennis player Karan Rastogi and squash player Aditya Jagtap.

“In a week’s time, everything should be formalised,” confirmed Prof Ratnakar Shetty, the Board’s chief administrative officer, on Tuesday.

Rastogi, 21, is expected to get Rs 40 lakh for the year. Jagtap, in his teens, will probably get an annual sponsorship worth Rs 24 lakh.
