'His brother won Orange Cap, couldn't win IPL. But if he wins that cap...': Jadeja's insane 'IPL 2023' prediction

Mar 24, 2023 10:24 AM IST

The 2023 Indian Premier League begins on March 31, and the former India star has made a rather interesting prediction ahead of the season opener.

The 2023 Indian Premier League begins on March 31 with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. This year's IPL will see some of the big names missing the tournament due to injury issues; while Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians) is out with a back injury, Shreyas Iyer is also reported to miss the tournament after recurring back injury as well. Among overseas players, Will Jacks, Kyle Jamieson, and Jhye Richardson have all been ruled out, while Punjab King star Jonny Bairstow hasn't received the NOC to participate in the tournament as well.

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant didn't sustain a cricketing injury but a severe car crash last December sees him recovering from multiple injuries at the moment, and the wicketkeeper-batter will also miss the season. In Pant's absence, David Warner will lead the Capitals with Axar Patel named as his deputy.

Even as Pant remains absent from the side, Capitals boast significant firepower in their batting order with Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell and Rilee Rossouw in their squad. And former India star Ajay Jadeja has made a big remark on Marsh, who produced impressive outings in the recently-concluded ODI series against India.

Jadeja predicted if Marsh wins the Orange Cap this year, Capitals will end their wait for a IPL trophy.

"What a performance (from Mitchell Marsh). Delhi (Capitals) fans would be very happy with this. Such a big player and now he has to come to form. His brother had won the Orange Cap once, but Punjab couldn't win the tournament then. But if he (Mitchell) wins the Orange Cap, their team will win the tournament, such is the impact of this player," Jadeja told Cricbuzz.

Delhi Capitals came closest to winning the IPL title in the 2020 edition of the tournament, where they faced a defeat to Mumbai Indians in the final. This was their only appearance in a title clash in IPL history; last year, Capitals narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs, as they finished fifth in the table.
