Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings with 24 wickets was the winner of the Purple Cap in IPL 2024. With 21 wickets, Varun Chakaravarthy of Kolkata Knight Riders is in the second position, followed by Jasprit Bumrah of Mumbai Indians in the third spot with 20 scalps.
This is for the second time Harshal has bagged the Purple Cap in IPL. T Natarajan of Sunrisers Hyderabad who was brilliant in IPL 2024, picked 19 wickets to finish in the fourth position. Harshit Rana of KKR also with 19 wickets is placed fifth in the highest wicket-takers tally.
Last year, it was Gujarat Titans' Mohammed Shami who clinched the Purple Cap with 28 wickets in his kitty. Unfortunately, Shami will miss the next season after he underwent surgery for his ankle injury. In his absence, Rashid Khan will be the leader of the bowling attack for last year's runner-ups. The Afghan spinner has been one of the best in the business in the past few years and he will be one of the favourites to win the Purple Cap.
Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the last season due to a back injury, will be back in IPL 2024 which will boost Mumbai Indians' chances of winning their record-breaking sixth title. However, for that, Bumrah has to do something special by going for his maiden Purple Cap Yuzvendra Chahal, Kagiso Rabada and Kuldeep Yadav will be other contenders for the highest-wicket-taker price in the upcoming season. However, all eyes will be on Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who are the most expensive players in IPL history.
Starc became the most expensive player in the league history as Kolkata Knight Riders acquired his services for INR 24.75 crore. While his skipper Pat Cummings joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping INR 20.5 crore. Harshal Patel, who was the purple cap winner in IPL 2021 while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, will represent Punjab Kings this season after they signed him for a whopping INR 11.75 crore in the auction.
Young players including Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan and Prasidh Krishna will be looking to impress the BCCI selectors ahead of the T20 World Cup to get a last-minute entry in the T20 World Cup squad. While Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar have to prove their consistency to retain their place in the T20 set-up.
