Champions Trophy New Zealand Squad

New Zealand have had to adjust their Champions Trophy squad following the withdrawal of fast bowler Ben Sears due to a hamstring injury.

In response, the team has brought in Jacob Duffy as a direct replacement.

Duffy, who has only featured in 10 ODIs for the Black Caps since his debut in July 2022, steps in for Sears after his injury setback. The 30-year-old seamer has taken 18 wickets in his one-day international career, maintaining an average of 25.94 and an economy rate of 6.25.

His most recent appearance for New Zealand came in early January, where he claimed two wickets for 30 runs in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Hamilton.

Leading the squad in a major tournament for the first time, Mitchell Santner will rely on the experience of senior players such as Kane Williamson and Tom Latham. The squad also features Mark Chapman, Will Young and spin-bowling allrounder Michael Bracewell.

New Zealand will kick off the tournament against Pakistan in Karachi before heading to Rawalpindi to face Bangladesh. Their third fixture will be in Dubai against India.

Discussing the team’s approach, Santner emphasised the importance of adaptability. “We usually prefer to stick with a settled lineup, but conditions will play a big role,” he said. “Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Dubai will likely offer very different playing surfaces. Given the short nature of the tournament, we’d like to back our chosen XI, but we’re prepared to make changes if necessary. Our focus is on fielding the best combination for the conditions at hand.”
