Swachh ranking: WhatsApp groups to interact with RWAs, market bodies in south Delhi

In the Swachh Bharat reckoning of 434 cities for 2016-17, the rankings of the three municipal corporations were East Corporation 196, South Corporation 202 and North Corporation 279.

To improve its Swachh Bharat ranking, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will now reach out to citizens through WhatsApp groups.

In a recent meeting of the South corporation, zonal level officials were asked to monitor the cleanliness of roads, public places and dhalaos with the help of WhatsApp groups by adding members of Resident Welfare Associations and market associations.

The association members can give their feedback, registers complaints and suggest new initiatives in these groups, said a senior official of South Corporation.

These groups will include officials of the zone, including deputy commissioners, sanitation superintendents and sanitation inspectors of the wards concerned.

In the Swachh Bharat reckoning of 434 cities for 2016-17, the rankings of the three municipal corporations were East Corporation 196, South Corporation 202 and North Corporation 279.

Besides, the corporation will buy 31 automatic litter-picking machines to be deployed in South Delhi markets. The civic body has sanctioned Rs 1.1 crore for the project.

“After the procurement of these machines, most South Delhi markets would be swept twice everyday as mandated under Solid Waste Management Rules,” he said.

The corporation has been pushing use of technology in the recent past and mulling interactive features in its website through which people can contact.

“We are exploring more options through which a two-way communication could be established with the people through our website,” he added.

The corporation had recently made major changes in the interface of its website and during its launch Delhi BJP head Manoj Tiwari had also hinted that the civic body will explore more options to communicate with people through different social media tools.
