AAP may field fresh faces for MCD polls
NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party will field its ‘popular young faces’ against the top leadership of Delhi BJP and Congress during the municipal elections scheduled for April-May next year.
Party sources said while elections are still months away, the AAP has ‘already identified 2-3 faces who can be fielded against Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, who is a councillor from Malviya Nagar in south Delhi.
They, however, refused to reveal the names of any of the probable candidates.
“The 2-3 party workers identified for Malviya Nagar constituency are popular faces often seen on news channels. Final call on one will be taken at an opportune time. The name of the candidate will also be finalised factoring in the delimitation, as the Delhi BJP chief could change his constituency due to it,” a senior AAP leader said.
A similar strategy will be applied when choosing candidates against top leaders in MCDs and the Delhi Congress, besides some veterans of BJP in Muncipal Corporations of Delhi like former mayor and Rajouri Garden councillor, Subhash Arya.
Sources said the party wants to field strong candidates against these leaders to give them a strong fight and force them to “concentrate” in their own constituency.
