According to the latest list (2011) accessed by HT from the fire safety department, three wings of AIIMS, the orthopaedic block of LN Hospital and the new 500-bed block of GTB Hospital in east Delhi do not have necessary clearance from the fire department.
Three big government hospitals — the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Lok Nayak Hospital and Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital — are among 12 city hospitals functioning without fire safety certificates, endangering the lives of thousands.
According to the latest list (2011) accessed by HT from the fire safety department, three wings of AIIMS, the orthopaedic block of LN Hospital and the new 500-bed block of GTB Hospital in east Delhi do not have necessary clearance from the fire department.
“I don’t want to comment on the matter. But one has to understand that these buildings were made over 40 years ago and it is a tough task to keep up with all requirements of the fire safety departments,” said AIIMS director Dr RC Deka.
