Bollywood producer held in cheating case

Yadav, who earlier was a small-time exporter of vegetables and fruits, produced and directed Overtime using the ill-gotten money. He decided to promote his film in Delhi too after its release on August 10.

But the plan to promote the movie and interview Delhi girls for his next venture backfired.

Delhi police arrested Yadav in connection with cheating cases registered against him in the past.

Yadav was arrested by a team of the Greater Kailash police from Malviya Nagar on Saturday where he was supposed to interview girls, said a senior police officer.

According to the officer, Yadav was declared a proclaimed offender by a city court in two cases of cheating registered against him at the Greater Kailash police station in 2001 and 2002.

“The cases were registered on the complaint of Yadav’s then business partner RK Wadhwa. Yadav had forged share certificates of their company and sold them illegally to other persons. A case of stealing a cheque book and misusing it was also lodged by Wadhwa against Yadav,” said the officer, adding he has been on the run for more than six years.

Yadav, who is from Mathura in Uttar Pradeh, did his BCom from his hometown and came to Delhi in 1998 to start a business of exporting vegetables and fruits to West Asia.

He and Wadhwa started their company as partners.

But very soon, Yadav started misappropriating funds of their company and cheated Wadhwa of several lakhs rupees.

“He fled to Mumbai, after Wadhwa got cases registered against him,” added the officer.
