Anand, who abducted the girl for ransom, knew well that the girl was emotionally vulnerable and used it to his advantage. He posed as a friend and guide and offered her emotional support. In return, he made the girl pay for his lavish lifestyle. Anand did not have a house in Delhi and lived in hotel, money for which used to come from the DU student.

A couple of days before abducting her for a ransom of Rs. 1.5 crore, Anand had demanded Rs. 2.5 lakh from her which she gave him willingly.

According to police, the girl's friend warned her repeatedly against 'playboy Anand' but she was so much under his influence that she ignored all advice.

Despite having a rented accommodation, the girl used to stay with Anand. She was with him even after knowing that he had blackmailed the daughter of an IAS officer and had recently extorted Rs. 12 lakh from her.

"It started affecting her studies and she flunked second-year examinations. Fearing that she would be reprimanded for her poor result, the girl wanted to run away. She decided to go to Dharamsala and told Anand about it," said the investigating officer.

As soon as he came to know about the girl's plan, Anand hatched the conspiracy to abduct her.

After returning to India from US three years ago, the girl's father shifted to Bangalore where he is associated as a consultant with an iron ore company while her mother started living at their new house in Noida.

"The girl was so detached from her parents that they did not even know where she lived and with whom. She told us that all she got from her parents was money," added the officer.
