“As soon the college staff got to know about the incident, they rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead,” said an Amity University spokesperson.

In August, law student Sushant Rohilla (20) allegedly committed suicide at his Delhi home after he was detained from exams due to low attendance.

On November 5, management student G Sai Krishna was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room. He had allegedly borrowed money and was unable to repay.

The university administration, however, said they did not know when and how Singh fell to his death.

He was staying in hostel H-3, meant exclusively for first-year students. He skipped the Physics exam scheduled for Thursday from 11.30 am-2pm.

“It is a matter of investigation... The police are checking the hostel to get any clue about the incident,” said the spokesperson.

The Amity administration said he was a bright student.

“He had scored 87% marks in Class 10 and 74% in Class 12. He was…very regular with classes. Not a single thing was against him inside the university,” said Amity University vice-president (communications), Savita Mehta. She said the university constituted a five-member committee to probe the matter.

The police said there was no suicide note at the spot, but they found evidence that indicated Singh may have committed suicide.

“One slipper of the deceased was found at the fifth floor of the hostel and another was found near his body. No signs of scuffle were found at the spot from where he might have fallen or jumped,” said Noida superintendent of police, Dinesh Yadav.

Police said Singh’s skipping of Thursday’s exam also made them suspect suicide.

“His roommates had gone to attend the exam. The rest of the boys had gone to attend class when the incident occurred. We have no witnesses so far to confirm what exactly happened but the circumstantial evidences indicate towards suicide,” said an investigating officer.

Singh was from Bhojpur in Bihar. His family was informed about the incident and the body was sent for postmortem, police said.
