The incident took place around 4.30am near Chhapraula area of Badalpur when passersby spotted a car that had caught fire. They tried to douse the fire and informed the fire department about the incident.

“About half an hour after the car was spotted in flames, the fire was doused. The policemen found a charred body inside the car. The car was badly burnt and no document could be recovered to ascertain the person’s identity,” VK Pandey, in-charge of Badalpur police station, said.

Police said they verified the engine and chassis number of the car with the transport department and identified the registration number as UP 16 Z 4555. The car belongs to one Deepak Saxena of Dadri.

“We searched the address of the car owner at Naya Haibatpur village but he was not there. Residents said they did not know anybody by that name,” said Pandey.

Police said they had registered a case of death due to negligence against unidentified person and formed a team to identify the man.

“The body was sent for postmortem and reports are awaited. We are trying to identify the deceased. We informed all the police stations and neighbouring cities about the incident. If any missing person complaint is found in any nearby police station, they will share the details with us,” said Pandey.

Police said the viscera of the deceased will be preserved for investigation.
