Following reports of malfunctioning of EVMs, re-polling was ordered at the two polling stations. Though people started thronging the polling booths early in the morning, they complained that they came to know about the re-polling at the last minute.

The Delhi Cantonment’s polling station number 31 saw an impressive turnout of 69.68%. Rohtas Nagar’s polling station number 132 was also not far behind with a turnout of 66.19%.

According to candidates and residents of the area, election officials informed about the re-polling after 7 pm on Sunday. Soon after the announcement, furious residents and party workers gathered in front of the polling centres on Sunday. Police intervention, however, brought the situation under control.

“The booth-level officers arranged for rickshaws that were making rounds in the colony from 7 pm to 9.30 pm announcing about the re-polling. But it was too late. Those who had gone to office couldn’t get the time to cast their votes, considering it was a working day,” said Niru, a resident of Rohtas Nagar.

In Delhi Cantt also, people expressed displeasure against the electoral office for announcing a repoll.
