Thieves are striking at their will in the Capital and are not sparing even high-profile foreign diplomats and their high-end parties.
A latest case of theft during a pre-Christmas bash at the residence of the ambassador of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela proves this point.
A BlackBerry phone and a wallet, containing some important documents, of the minister of counsellor of Venezuela were stolen from the party. The bash took place at the ambassador's Amrita Shergill Marg residence on December 22.
The matter was reported to the Tughlaq Road police station on Tuesday after the victim lodged a complaint. Comprehending the seriousness of the matter, the police are now looking investigating the matter in earnest.
Capaya Rodriguez Gonzalez, the minister counsellor of Venezuela, in her complaint told the police that she had gone to attend the pre-Christmas party at the ambassador's 1, Amrita Shergill Marg residence.
"The incident took place around 9pm and there were more than 100 guests at the party. The complainant had kept her mobile phone, identity card and her wallet containing important documents on a chest inside the house. A few minutes later she went to collect her belongings but found them missing," said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
"She asked around but could gather no information on the theft from anyone present in the party," the officer added.
