In a desperate move to trace minor girls trafficked into the city and forced into prostitution, the Delhi Police will put up posters with their photos outside the brothels of GB Road — Delhi’s notorious red-light district.

They are hoping that some clients turn out to be good Samaritans and if they happen to spot the missing children, inform the local police, whose contact numbers will be displayed on the posters.

“We are banking on customers as there have been instances of victims using the mobile phones of their clients to inform their parents of their whereabouts,” a senior officer said.

Before starting the initiative, Delhi Police officers recently met with their counterparts from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal as well as rescued girls hailing from these two states.

“According to the agreement, state police forces will send photos and other details of the missing girls via email to the Kamla Market station house officer. These details will be put up on posters and pamphlets outside brothels,” the officer said.

“Our aim is to rescue missing girls forced into the flesh trade after being trafficked into Delhi from other states. We will also take strict action against those behind the trafficking,” Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (central), said.
