Police invoked section 66(A) of Information Technology (IT) Act against Kanda for allegedly sending false electronic messages leading to harassment of Geetika, who committed suicide at her Ashok Vihar residence on August 5.

Investigators are also planning to slap section 201 (destruction of evidence) of IPC against Kanda, as they believe that crucial evidence was either destroyed or tampered with, allegedly by Kanda.

Meanwhile, a Rohini court rejected the Delhi Police’s fresh application seeking custody of Aruna Chaddha, who is currently in judicial custody, for confronting her with Kanda to identify the probable ‘inconsistencies in their statements’.

Police told the court that Chaddha had misled the investigators by claiming that she joined Kanda’s now defunct MDLR Group in 2006 but documents showed that she was appointed in 2004 as general manager.

Dharmendra Kumar, special commissioner of police (Law and Order), said they had invoked section 66(A) — sending information that is grossly offensive or has menacing character or false or to deceive or to mislead, against Kanda. “We have invoked this section as the accused through electronic message, forged details and sent it,” Kumar said without elaborating.

Not satisfied with the investigation the police have made so far in his sister’s suicide case, Geetika’s brother Ankit Sharma on Tuesday, approached the National Commission for Women (NCW).

Asking how Geetika’s autopsy report was leaked to the media, the NCW said the delay in police action proved that she was exploited and demanded punishment for those who drove her to death.

Cops recover kanda’s laptop

Geetika Sharma was under ‘different kinds of bondage’ engineered by her ex-employer for several reasons. This included the quashing of a criminal case she had got registered against two colleagues, before Kanda’s ‘machinations’ pushed her to end her life, the Delhi Police fervently claimed on Tuesday.

‘Officially’ breaking their silence on the issue since her death early this month, the police claimed to have recovered ‘more clinching evidence’, in the form of Kanda’s personal laptop. They dismissed as ‘speculation’ reports indicting them for an unexplained delay in nabbing him and maintained that he was cooperating with his interrogators ‘seamlessly’.

“We have reason to believe that Geetika was being subjected not only to sexual exploitation but also being used as a means to attain several other objectives by Kanda,” claimed an officer, but refused to elaborate in the interests of building a ‘water-tight’ case against the ex-Haryana minister.

While sources indicated that Kanda was using Geetika’s name and her position as director in his company for tax evasion — especially in view of three recently-floated companies of which she had been christened chairman.

Police said they have identified one Shivroop, one of Kanda’s employees, as the creator of a fake email id ‘albashir@yahoo.com’, which had been used to send a fake extradition warrant in Geetika’s name to her. Investigators said they were now on Shivroop’s trail and would arrest him at the earliest.

Apart from searching Ankita Singh, investigators are also looking for Khusboo, who is said to be another close aide of Kanda.
