Thieves who particularly target high-profile jewellers are on the prowl in the city. In two separate incidents reported on Wednesday, two different jewellers of Chandni Chowk were targeted by unidentified thieves who stole gold and silver jewellery worth Rs. 2 crore from them.

The first incident was reported from east Delhi's Jagatpuri where unidentified thieves stole a bag containing 3.5 kg gold worth rupees one crore besides cash and a laptop from the car of Ravi Vats, owner of Satguru Jewellers at Kucha Mahajini in Chandni Chowk.
The incident took place around 8 pm when the jeweller had halted his car to replace its punctured tyre near Anandpur trust in Jagatpuri, police said.
Vats along with his business partner Amit Nagpal and driver Satnam Singh were headed towards Nagpal's house in Ram Nagar after closing their shop when a motorcyclist signaled them about the punctured tyre of their car.
"While Nagpal went to urinate, the car driver started replacing the tyre. Vats was talking to someone over the phone when a youth, aged around 20 years, arrived there and asked him about the nearest traffic signal. After engaging Vats in a conversation, the youth disappeared. Vats got suspicious on the weird conversation of the youth and checked his car. His bag containing gold jewellery, his laptop and some cash was missing," said a police officer.
In the second incident reported at the Kotwali police station, Mahesh Kumar Verma, a jeweller who runs his shop at Kucha Mahajini in Chandni Chowk, alleged that six silver slabs worth R1 crore were stolen from his storeroom by unidentified persons on Wednesday night.
During investigation, a police officer said, it was learnt that a person had arrived at Verma's storeroom and asked his worker Babu Lal to keep six slabs of silver in his car. Police have now registered a case of theft.
