In a first of its kind incident reported in Delhi, two men travelling in a white Maruti Swift car snatched a woman’s handbag containing cash and other valuables in south Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar on Wednesday afternoon, barely 100 meters away from the Sarojini Nagar police station.

Meenu Singh, a resident of south Delhi’s Moti Bagh, was walking towards Sarojini Nagar market when unidentified assailants in a Swift car snatched her bag. The victim was injured in her right elbow and knee when she tried to resist the assailants and in the process got dragged with their car for some distance.

“I grabbed the handle of the car’s front gate and they dragged me on the road. I could not note down the registration number of the car as I was in extreme pain,” said Singh in her complaint to the police.

The second case of snatching took place around midnight in Green Park area in which a bike-borne assailant snatched a laptop from a girl who was in an autorickshaw.

The snatcher, however, was caught by the police as all the exit gates in Green Park area were closed. He has been identified as Harsewak Singh, a resident of Nanakpura area in south Delhi.

In the third incident, two bike-borne youths snatched R500 from an auto-rickshaw driver in Hauz Khas area around 11pm on Tuesday. Sources said the assailants were caught by police personnel when they were stopped at a check post for routine checks.
