It’s a proud moment for Indore as an 18-year-old local boy has made the cut for Churchill College under Cambridge University for a six-year medicine course with an integrated research degree.

Anirudh Joshi is the only non-UK student in the batch of 12 who made it to the one of the top five undergraduate colleges in the world.
“Cambridge University accepts only 22 international students to study medicine in the 12-13 colleges which come under it. It is an outcome of great hard work that I made it to the list,” said Anirudh, a pass-out from Choithram International School.
Putting in over a year’s work in the entire selection process, the youngster was very clear right from the start about the course he wished to pursue. “When he was growing up, he would often talk about the entire research he wishes to pursue apart from doing a medicine degree,” said Anirudh’s mother, Dr Jyoti Joshi.
A doctor herself, Joshi said Anirudh had always wanted to research on the neurological perspective of auditory diseases.
“Anirudh has a mild hearing disability, he cannot catch higher frequencies. As a child he had to struggle a lot, it was only after we consulted a few doctors we came to know that he could not hear things in a crowded place at all. Also in a class full of students he had to sit on the first bench only as he would be unable to catch any voice which was played at a higher frequency. But with his hard work and practice in lip reading he excelled in his academic career,” she said..

Having a near flawless record in school academics and competitive exams, Anirudh was also offered scholarships by many coaching institutes for his performance. In his class 12 result under international baccalaureate he scored 99.77%.
But not everything appears to be at ease with Anirudh and his selection in the university. Despite a brilliant academic career Anirudh is faced with the problem of funds for this course. The entire cost of the course comes to around Rs 3.7 crore apart from other expenses.
