      Assam records 84.96% turnout in Phase 3 of polls

      Assam: Alliances, independents set to make 3rd phase the most closely contested

      The Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), with which the former has allied with, won 50% or more of the ACs in this phase in the 2009 (LS) and 2011 elections.

      181 votes cast in polling station with 90 voters; 5 officials suspended

      The incident occurred at a polling station at Khothlir LP School in the Halflong seat of Dima Hasao district, which went to polls in the second phase on April 1.

      This is the second incident of poll irregularity reported in Assam during this assembly election.(AP)

      In Assam's Dima Hasao, 171 votes cast at booth that has 90 eligible voters

      The booth is in Assam's Haflong constituency where 90 people were eligible for voting but it was revealed that 171 votes were cast.

      Badruddin Ajmal says AIUDF will support Congress CM in Assam

      EC tones down gag order on Himanta Biswa Sarma to 24 hours after apology

      Campaigning for the third and final phase of polls in the state ends on Sunday. A total of 40 seats including Jalukbari from where Sarma is contesting will go to polls in the third phase to be held on April 6.

      Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Election Commission should also investigate the matter of "stolen EVMs that were found from the car of BJP candidate" in Assam.

      <p>After P Chidamabaram was arrested by the CBI, the Congress has now launched a scathing attack on the Modi government. Addressing the media, party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, alleged that the BJP was using the CBI and the ED as personal revenge seeking departments.       EC bars Himanta Biswa Sarma from campaigning for threatening BPF’s Mohilary

      Holding him prima facie guilty of violating the model code of conduct, the EC had on Thursday sent a notice to Sarma directing him to “explain his position” by 5 pm on Friday. Sarma denied the allegations against him in his reply, but the EC found it to be unsatisfactory.

      Poll officials’ car broke down, they sought help: BJP candidate on Assam EVM row

      4 officials suspended, repoll ordered after EVM found in Assam BJP candidate's

      The poll body said in a statement that the polled EVM, with BU, CU and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was found with its seal undamaged, adding that all the items have been deposited in the strong room.
