Chhattisgarh recorded 76.31 per cent voter turnout in the 2023 assembly elections for 90 seats held in two phases on November 7 and 17. The first phase of the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections recorded 78 per cent voter turnout in 20 seats while the second phase witnessed 75.88 per cent polling in 70 seats. The voter turnout in the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections was slightly lower than the voting percentage of 76.88 per cent recorded in the 2018 assembly polls.

While all seats are equally important for forming government in the tribal-dominated state, some contests invariably attracted the most attention during the Chhattisgarh assembly elections as they feature prominent leaders of the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Some of the high-profile assembly constituencies include Patan, chief minister Bhupesh Baghel's home constituency; Rajnandgaon, former chief minister Raman Singh's seat; and Ambikapur, a tribal-dominated seat currently held by deputy chief minister T S Singh Deo.

Some other seats to watch out for in the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections are Konta (ST), Kondagaon (ST), Raipur City South, Durg Rural, Sakti, Kawardha, Saja, Arang, Kharsia, and Janjgir-Champa.

A total of 1,181 candidates are in the fray for the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections. Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Gondwana Ganatantra Party (GPP) contested in an alliance. While the contest on most of the seats is between the ruling Congress and the BJP, some seats witnessed a three-way fight where former CM Ajit Jogi's party and the BSP have pockets of influence. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also threw its hat in the ring by fielding its candidates in 53 seats. However, its impact on these seats is yet to be determined.

In the 2018 assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, the Congress party registered a landslide victory, winning 68 of the 90 seats. The BJP's tally came down to just 15, while the JCC (J) and the BSP bagged 5 and 2 seats, respectively.
