He started his political career with the BJP in 1994 and was elected in 1999 and 2002, before moving to the Congress in 2015, and was re-elected. He became the chief minister in 2007. If the Congress forms the next government, Kamat is the prime candidate to helm the top post once again.

Election Commission seizes record 4,650 crore ahead of Lok Sabha polls
