Former BJP legislator Kiran Kandolkar quit the party after the saffron brigade welcomed his rival Nilkanth Halarnkar from the Congress. Kandolkar first joined the Goa Forward Party and later when the TMC entered the picture, chose the Mamata Banerjee side. A businessman with interests in real estate and gaming, Kandolkar is the TMC's brightest hope of opening its account in Goa. Contesting from the Aldona constituency, he has also fielded wife Kavita from the neighbouring Tivim constituency.
