Veteran politician Dhavalikar made a career as a civil contractor, executing government contracts, before plunging into politics and getting elected from the Marcaim seat in 1999. He has represented the seat since then and won by a record margin of 13,000 votes in 2017, the highest in Goa. Sudin, who along with his brother Deepak, has wrested control of Goa's oldest party - the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, has played the role of a kingmaker, being part of every single government since 1999 until he was dropped by chief minister Pramod Sawant in 2019. Dhavalikar has now aligned with the Trinamool Congress.
