Margao comes under the South Goa district and it is one of the 40 Goa Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Margao voted for Goa Assembly Election 2022 on February 14 and the result was declared on March 10.
In Goa Assembly Election 2017, there were 28,457 registered voters for Margao assembly seat, out of which 14,075 were male and 14,382 were female voters. 0.9% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In 2017, 4 candidates were contesting for Margao assembly constituency seat. Margao was one of 17 seats won by the Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress's Digambar Vasant Kamat won the election by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's Sharmad Raiturkar by a margin of 4,176 votes.
90.7% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Indian National Congress's Digambar Vasant Kamat got a total of 12,105 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Sharmad Raiturkar got 7,929 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Santosh Raiturkar grabbed 1,832 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 54.8%, 35.9% and 8.3% respectively.
In Goa Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Digambar Kamat defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Mahatme Rupesh by 4,452 votes.
