Schedule for General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Goa

Goa assembly polls 2022 were held in a single phase on February 14. Forty assembly seats are spread over just two districts of the coastal state - North and South Goa. see more

Goa saw a voter turnout of nearly 79 per cent, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s constituency -Sanquelim - registering the highest turnout.Goa election schedule 2022 was announced in January by the Election Commission at a time when the country was witnessing a surge in Covid cases with Omicron driving the third wave.

Goa candidate list has 301 leaders. Pramod Sawant-led ruling BJP is fighting for a second term, without the guidance of Manohar Parrikar for the first time in nearly two decades. The Congress, which was the single-largest party with 17 seats in the 40-member state assembly, has claimed it will win the state

The AAP, which has delivered impressive performance in civic polls, is also among the contenders. Amit Palekar is the face of the party. It will be interesting to see if Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, whose efforts to remain visible on the ground have been noticed, is able to make a dent after an open rift with the Congress. The TMC is contesting the Goa election with the MGP, the state’s first ruling party.

Dominating the Goa assembly election news have been the defections and possibility of tie-ups between the opposition parties that are trying to forge an anti-BJP alliance before the 2024 national polls.

Goa election result will be out on March 10, along with four other states - Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
