It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Katara Rameshbhai Bhurabhai winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Machhar Raghubhai Ditabhai by a margin of just 2,711 votes.
The top two candidates split 94.0% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Katara Rameshbhai Bhurabhai got a total of 60,250 votes, while Indian National Congress's Machhar Raghubhai Ditabhai secured 57,539 votes. Nationalist Congress Party's candidate Prabhubhai Kaljibhai Baria secured 2,747 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 48.1%, 45.9% and 2.2% respectively.
