Chingai (st) is one of the 60 Manipur Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Ukhrul district. People of Chingai (st) voted for Manipur Assembly Election 2022 on March 3 and the result was declared on March 10.

In the 2017 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, there were 4 candidates in the fray from Chingai (st) constituency. Chingai (st) was one of 4 seats won by the Naga Peoples Front. It was a one way contest with Naga Peoples Front's Khashim Vashum comfortably winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Sword Vashum by a huge margin of 7,650 votes.
99.5% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Naga Peoples Front's Khashim Vashum grabbed a total of 16,582 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Sword Vashum got 8,932 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Preshow M.K Shimray bagged 6,370 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 51.8%, 27.9% and 19.9% respectively.
In Manipur Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's M.K. Preshow beat independent candidate Khashim Vashum by 815 votes.
