Manipur polls: BJP win reflection of people's acceptance, says state chief Sharda Devi
According to a PTI report, the state BJP chief said she is confident of her party securing a majority in Manipur.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) set for a landslide victory in Manipur, its state unit chief A Sharda Devi on Thursday heaped praises on the party leadership for the impressive performance. She said it is the "reflection of people's acceptance of the party and its governance".

"This time we have been able to do well in areas where we have not won before," Devi said, adding, "The party has gained majorly in pockets which are considered Congress strongholds. It shows that the people of Manipur have accepted us and the governance we've provided."
According to a PTI report, the state BJP chief said she is confident of her party securing a majority in Manipur. "Apart from targeting 40-plus seats, we had also set out to defeat big opponents of other parties in this election. I believe we have achieved that target as well," she added.
According to latest trends on the Election Commission's website, the BJP has bagged seven seats so far, while it is leading in 14 others. It is followed by Janata Dal (United) which has won three seats so far. It is also leading on three others.
The National People's Party (NPP), an ally of the present BJP government, has grabbed two seats and is leading in four other constituencies. Meanwhile, the Congress which was hoping to form its government has won two seats and maintained a lead on two others.
Meanwhile, celebrations have begun at chief minister N Biren Singh's home in Imphal. The senior BJP leader had contested polls from his stronghold Heingang. He defeated his nearest rival, Congress’ P Sharatchandra, by a margin of nearly 18,000 votes.
Manipur is a critical northeastern state where the BJP was fighting to maintain its footprint. The saffron party had decided to go solo in all 60 constituencies of the state.
In the 2017 polls, the Congress had emerged as the single-largest party after winning 28 of 60 seats. But the BJP managed to form a government with the support of the National People's Party (NPP), Naga People's Front (NPF) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
