Amritsar Central comes under the Amritsar district and it is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Amritsar Central voted for Punjab Assembly Election 2022 on February 20 and the results was declared on March 10.

The election for Amritsar Central seat was comfortably won by Indian National Congress's Om Parkash Soni defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's Tarun Chugh by a huge margin of 21,116 votes.
The top two candidates split 90.6% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Om Parkash Soni got a total of 51,242 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Tarun Chugh secured 30,126 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Ajay Gupta secured 7,171 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 57.1%, 33.6% and 8.0% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Om Parkash Soni outperformed Bharatiya Janata Party's Tarun Chugh by 12,797 votes.
