Amritsar South is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Amritsar district. Punjab Assembly Election 2022 for Amritsar South was held on February 20 and the results was declared on March 10.
In 2017, the Amritsar South assembly seat had 1,48,806 registered voters. Of the, 79,494 were male and 69,312 were female voters. 0.5% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In 2017, 12 candidates were competing for Amritsar South assembly constituency seat. Amritsar South was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a one way contest with Indian National Congress's Inderbir Singh Bolaria comfortably winning the election defeating Aam Aadmi Party's Inderbir Singh Nijjar by a huge margin of 22,658 votes.
96.2% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Indian National Congress's Inderbir Singh Bolaria grabbed a total of 47,581 votes, while Aam Aadmi Party's Inderbir Singh Nijjar got 24,923 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal's candidate Gurpartap Singh Tikka bagged 16,596 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 51.4%, 26.9% and 17.9% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Shiromani Akali Dal's Inderbir Singh Bolaria defeated Indian National Congress's Jasbir Singh Gill (DIMPA) by 15,056 votes.
