In a major face loss for the Congress, incumbent chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi lost from both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur.

Punjab incumbent chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi lost both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaurin a major face loss for the Grand Old Party which broke away from its tradition and announced Channi as the CM face. In Bhadaur, the Aam Aadmi Party's giant-slayer Labh Singh Ugoke got over 57,000 votes, while Channi managed over 23,000 votes. On Bhadaur, which Channi has represented in the past, he was defeated by AAP's Charanjit Singh.

Channi's defeat comes as the Congress sees a massive rout in Punjab after months of infighting that started with the feud between Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. The High Command intervened and replaced Amarinder Singh with Channi, who became the first Dalit CM of Punjab. The feud was not put to rest as Sidhu continued to thwart Channi, but finally Channi was announced as the CM face.

Congress chief minister candidate Charanjit Singh Channi contested from two seats -- Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur. While Bhadaur is a new constituency for Channi, he has represented Chamkaur Sahib since 2007.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal had earlier predicted that Channi will be losing from both the constituencies. A survey conducted by the party said Channi is preferred by 35% of people in Chamkaur Sahib, while 52% prefer AAP. In Bhadaur, 48% people preferred AAP and 30% preferred Channi, the AAP survey said.
