Rajewal gained prominence in India and Punjabis abroad after he became one of the key faces of the farmers’ agitation in 2020 against the now-repealed central farm laws. He has been active in agrarian politics for more than 40 years, representing the rich and middle-class peasantry of Punjab under the banner of farmers’ outfit Bhartiya Kisan Union (Rajewal) he formed about 20 years ago. He owns a rice-sheller, an arhtiya shop and a college in rural Punjab. He has aspired for long to take the electoral plunge, and after the success of the farmers’ agitation, he formed a political outfit named Sanyukt Samaj Morcha in December 2021 and fielded candidates across the state He is contesting from Samrala.
