Punjab Election: Nawanshahr Assembly Constituency 2022

Nawanshahr is the assembly constituency which comes under the Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar district. It is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies . Punjab Assembly Election 2022 for Nawanshahr was held on February 20 and the result was declared on March 10.

In Punjab Assembly Election 2017, there were 1,68,158 registered voters for Nawanshahr assembly seat, out of which 86,026 were male and 82,132 were female voters. 0.5% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.

What happened last time

In the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly Election, there were 9 candidates in the fray from Nawanshahr constituency. Nawanshahr was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Angad Singh winning the election upstaging Shiromani Akali Dal's Jarnail Singh Wahid by a margin of just 3,323 votes.

82.5% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Indian National Congress's Angad Singh grabbed a total of 38,197 votes, while Shiromani Akali Dal's Jarnail Singh Wahid got 34,874 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Charanjit Singh Channi bagged 32,341 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 29.9%, 27.3% and 25.3% respectively.

In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Guriqbal Kaur defeated Shiromani Akali Dal's Satinder Kaur Kariha by 1,759 votes.
