      A majority of exit polls broadcast by popular television channels were unanimous in predicting a victory for AAP in Punjab with India Today-Axis My India exit poll predicting 76-90 seats for the party and the Times Now-Veto exit poll forecasting a mammoth 70 seats in the 117 member state assembly for the party.

      Punjab witnessed a multi-cornered contest in a single phase poll, between the ruling Congress, that has fielded chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, as its nominee for the top post, the Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party tie-up, and the coalition of the BJP-Capt Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress party as the key political parties in the fray.

      Assembly polls: Punjab records 72% voter turnout, lowest in 15 years

      A voter turnout of nearly 72% was recorded in Punjab where polling for 117 assembly seats was held on Sunday. This is the lowest voting percentage when compared to that observed in three previous assembly polls

      At 66.39 %, female voter turnout in Ludhiana lower than males
