In 2017, 11 candidates were competing for Rajpura assembly constituency seat. Rajpura was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a one way contest with Indian National Congress's Hardial Singh Kamboj comfortably winning the election defeating Aam Aadmi Party's Ashutosh Joshi by a huge margin of 32,565 votes.
82.5% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Indian National Congress's Hardial Singh Kamboj grabbed a total of 59,107 votes, while Aam Aadmi Party's Ashutosh Joshi got 26,542 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Harjit Singh Grewal bagged 19,151 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 46.5%, 20.9% and 15.1% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Hardial Singh Kamboj defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajkhurana by 31,510 votes.
