Punjab Election: Sahnewal Assembly Constituency 2022

Sahnewal is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Ludhiana district. Punjab Assembly Election 2022 for Sahnewal was held on February 20 and the results was declared on March 10.

In Punjab Assembly Election 2017, there were 2,19,852 registered voters for Sahnewal assembly seat, out of which 1,19,625 were male and 1,00,227 were female voters. 0.7% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.

What happened last time

In the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly Election, there were 12 candidates in the fray from Sahnewal constituency. Sahnewal was one of 15 seats won by the Shiromani Akali Dal. It was a close contest with Shiromani Akali Dal's Sharanjit Singh Dhillon winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Satwinder Kaur Bitti by a margin of just 4,551 votes.

97.2% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Shiromani Akali Dal's Sharanjit Singh Dhillon grabbed a total of 63,184 votes, while Indian National Congress's Satwinder Kaur Bitti got 58,633 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Harjot Singh Bains bagged 39,570 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 38.1%, 35.3% and 23.8% respectively.

In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Shiromani Akali Dal's Sharanjit Singh Dhillon defeated Indian National Congress's Vikram Singh Bajwa by 21,219 votes.
