Sunam comes under the Sangrur district and it is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Sunam voted for Punjab Assembly Election 2022 on February 20 and the result was declared on March 10.
Sunam assembly constituency had 1,85,299 electors in 2017, out of which 98,994 were male voters and 86,305 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.9% votes.
In the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly Election, there were 12 candidates in the fray from Sunam constituency. Sunam was one of 20 seats won by the Aam Aadmi Party. Aam Aadmi Party's Aman Arora won the election upstaging Shiromani Akali Dal's Gobind Singh Longowal by a margin of 30,307 votes.
The top three candidates split 94.9% of votes between them. Aam Aadmi Party's Aman Arora got a total of 72,815 votes, while Shiromani Akali Dal's Gobind Singh Longowal secured 42,508 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Daaman Thind Bajwa grabbed the third spot with 30,518 votes. The top three parties got 47.4%, 27.7% and 19.9% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Shiromani Akali Dal's Parminder Singh Dhindsa defeated Indian National Congress's Aman Arora by 4,654 votes.
