Punjab assembly election results: AAP chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his party's victory in the state shows he is not a “terrorist” as claimed by his rivals.

Following Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) sweeping victory in Punjab on Thursday, party chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people of the state. “Punjab waalo tussia kamaal kar ditta (To all the people of Punjab, you've done wonders), we all love you, Punjab,” he said addressing a gathering in the border state.

“The results are a massive ‘Inquilaab’, big seats have shaken up,” the AAP supremo said.

Reiterating the “amazing” job that the people of Punjab have done, Kejriwal said, “Sukhbir Singh Badal lost, Capt Sahab lost, Channi Sahab lost, Parkash Singh Badal lost, Navjot Singh Sidhu lost, Bikram Singh Majithia lost.”

Kejriwal took to Twitter earlier in the day to express his feelings following his party's runaway victory in Punjab. “Congratulations to Punjab for this revolution,” the Delhi CM tweeted a picture of him alongside AAP's chief ministerial face Bhagwant Mann.

The ruling Congress party that was hoping for a comeback in Punjab was shown exit doors from all sides after several of its keys players, including incumbent chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the party's state president Navjot Singh Sidhu lost to their AAP rivals.

Channi lost from both Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib by a margin of more than 34,000 votes collectively. He lost to AAP's Labh Singh by over 27,000 from Bhadaur, while to his namesake, AAP's Charanjit Singh by a margin of 7,833 votes from the other seat.

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, who last year quit Congress and later started his party - Punjab Lok Congress, and contested the assembly polls with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), lost to AAP's Ajitpal Singh Kohli by a margin of 19,873 votes.
