Ambedkar Nagar is one of the four districts where the SP won all the assembly seats. The other districts where the party made a clean sweep are Shamli, Kaushambi, Ghazipur and Azamgarh.

The MLAs who came together to meet Akhilesh included Lalji Verma (elected from Katehari), Ram Achal Rajbhar (Akbarpur), Tribhuwan Dutt (Alapur), Rakesh Pandey (Jalalpur) and Ram Murti Verma (Tanda).

Akhilesh congratulated all the five on winning their seats and ensuring the party’s clean sweep in the district. He asked them to work for the people of their respective constituencies and raise issues in the legislature.

Lalji Verma, Ram Achal Rajbhar, and Rakesh Pandey had switched sides from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to the SP ahead of the UP assembly polls 2022.

The SP won 111 seats and its allies Rashtriya Lok Dal and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party bagged eight and six seats respectively in the recently concluded UP assembly elections.

The BJP won 255 seats to retain power and its allies Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad party bagged 12 and six seats respectively.

Since the declaration of the poll results on March 10, the victorious MLAs have been meeting Akhilesh in ones and twos.

All of them have been summoned to the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow on March 21 for a formal meeting, where the new party MLAs are likely to elect the leader of the SP group in the assembly.
