Akhilesh summons meeting of new SP MLAs post-Holi
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has called a meeting of the newly-elected party MLAs in Lucknow post-Holi, on March 21.
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has summoned a meeting of the newly-elected party MLAs in Lucknow post-Holi, on March 21 to be precise.
According to an SP statement on twitter, before or on Holi Akhilesh will go to Karhal (Mainpuri), the constituency from where he contested his first assembly elections and won.
Holi is on March 18.
“National president Akhilesh Yadav has summoned a meeting of all newly-elected SP MLAs on March 21 at the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow,” the SP statement said.
Though the winner MLAs have begun meeting Akhilesh since the day after results, this will be the first formal meeting of all party MLAs.
When asked about the agenda of the meeting, a senior organisational leader in the SP said: “The national president will greet and congratulate the MLAs for winning their respective seats and then brief them on what all the party would expect from them, in their conduct and function, as MLAs. Now that the party has not won the mandate to run the state, it has become a strong opposition. He would also ask them to struggle for people of their constituencies as well as in the legislature by raising public issues.”
The SP, which was predicted as a resurgent party in the bipolar contest of the just-concluded UP assembly elections, won 111 seats in the 403 member assembly. In 2017 also the SP was the principal opposition party, but was a weak one with just 47 MLAs.
