In Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2017, there were 3,70,204 registered voters for Aligarh assembly seat, out of which 1,98,258 were male and 1,71,946 were female voters. 0.4% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, there were 11 candidates in the fray from Aligarh constituency. Aligarh was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sanjeev Raja won the election upstaging Samajwadi Party's Zafar Alam by a margin of 15,440 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.2% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sanjeev Raja got a total of 1,13,752 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Zafar Alam secured 98,312 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Mohd Arif grabbed the third spot with 25,704 votes. The top three parties got 46.5%, 40.2% and 10.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Zafar Aalam outperformed Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashutosh Varshney by 23,086 votes.
