Azamgarh comes under the Azamgarh district and it is one of the 403 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Azamgarh voted for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 on March 7 and the results was declared on March 10.
Azamgarh assembly constituency had 3,75,008 electors in 2017, out of which 2,05,917 were male voters and 1,69,091 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.6% votes.
In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Azamgarh constituency had 7 candidates for assembly seat contention. Azamgarh was one of 47 seats won by the Samajwadi Party. Samajwadi Party's Durga Prasad won the election by upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Akhilesh by a margin of 26,262 votes.
98.2% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Samajwadi Party's Durga Prasad grabbed a total of 88,087 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Akhilesh got 61,825 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Bhupendra bagged 58,185 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 41.6%, 29.2% and 27.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Durga Prasad Yadav beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Sarvesh Singh Sipu by 31,441 votes.
