Barhapur is one of the 403 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Bijnor district. People of Barhapur voted for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 on February 14 and the result was declared on March 10.

In 2017, 22 candidates were contesting for Barhapur assembly constituency seat. Barhapur was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Sushant Kumar winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Husain Ahmad by a margin of just 9,824 votes.
89.5% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sushant Kumar grabbed a total of 78,744 votes, while Indian National Congress's Husain Ahmad got 68,920 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Fahad Yazdani bagged 50,684 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 35.5%, 31.1% and 22.9% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bahujan Samaj Party's Mohd.Ghazi defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Indra Dev Singh by 27,375 votes.
