In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Chharra constituency had 14 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 312 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Chharra was one of them. The election for Chharra seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Ravendra Pal Singh defeating Samajwadi Party's Thakur Rakesh Singh by a huge margin of 56,134 votes.
96.2% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Ravendra Pal Singh grabbed a total of 1,10,738 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Thakur Rakesh Singh got 54,604 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Sagir bagged 53,859 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 48.6%, 24.0% and 23.6% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Rakesh Kumar beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Mool Chand Baghel by 4,786 votes.
