It was a one way contest with Apna Dal (Soneylal)'s Jai Kumar Singh Jaiki comfortably winning the election upstaging Samajwadi Party's Madangopal Verma by a huge margin of 47,606 votes.
The top three candidates split 81.7% of votes between them. Apna Dal (Soneylal)'s Jai Kumar Singh Jaiki got a total of 81,438 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Madangopal Verma secured 33,832 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Ram Narayan Nishad grabbed the third spot with 32,010 votes. The top three parties got 45.2%, 18.8% and 17.8% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Madan Gopal Verma beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Sameer Trivedi by 36,211 votes.
