In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Jalalpur constituency had 13 candidates for assembly seat contention. Jalalpur was one of 19 seats won by the Bahujan Samaj Party. Bahujan Samaj Party's Ritesh Pandey won the election by upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Dr. Rajesh Singh by a margin of 13,030 votes.
The top three candidates split 94.6% of votes between them. Bahujan Samaj Party's Ritesh Pandey got a total of 90,309 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Dr. Rajesh Singh secured 77,279 votes. Samajwadi Party's candidate Shankhlal Majhi grabbed the third spot with 58,773 votes. The top three parties got 37.7%, 32.3% and 24.6% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Sher Bahadur beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Ritesh Pandey by 17,264 votes.
