Bharatiya Janata Party's Sanjeev Kumar Diwakar won the election by upstaging Samajwadi Party's Ranjeet Suman by a margin of 19,808 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.6% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sanjeev Kumar Diwakar got a total of 81,502 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Ranjeet Suman secured 61,694 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Mohan Singh Happy grabbed the third spot with 35,817 votes. The top three parties got 44.4%, 33.6% and 19.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Ranjeet Suman beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Omprakash Dalit by 22,569 votes.
