Samajwadi Party's Nahid Hasan won the election by upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Mriganka Singh by a margin of 21,162 votes.
The top two candidates split 84.8% of votes between them. Samajwadi Party's Nahid Hasan got a total of 98,830 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Mriganka Singh secured 77,668 votes. Rashtriya Lok Dal's candidate Anil Kumar secured 19,992 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 47.5%, 37.3% and 9.6% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Hukum Singh beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Anwar Hasan by 19,543 votes.
