It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Chandra Prakash Alias Ca Chandra Prakash Shukl winning the election upstaging Bahujan Samaj Party's Ram Prasad Chaudhary by a margin of just 6,827 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.6% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Chandra Prakash Alias Ca Chandra Prakash Shukl got a total of 70,527 votes, while Bahujan Samaj Party's Ram Prasad Chaudhary secured 63,700 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Krishna Kinkar Singh Rana grabbed the third spot with 60,142 votes. The top three parties got 35.4%, 32.0% and 30.2% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bahujan Samaj Party's Ram Prasad Chaudhary outperformed Samajwadi Party's Trayambak Nath by 11,070 votes.
